Great Yarmouth Wednesday

This morning was warm and sunny, a total contrast to yesterday. We spoke to some people this morning at breakfast who told us that it was the 60th aniversary of the formation of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight was set up to collect and preserve examples of the main aircraft involved in the conflict to honour the RAF's defence of the UK against German attacks at the end of 1940. The flight, known as the BBMF, is based at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire, and has one of only two airworthy Lancaster bombers in the world, the other one is in Canada. Back to the people we met at breakfast, they attended a celebration last night, in the hanger, with Prince William. This morning, after we had checked out, they took us around to the roadside viewing area at RAF Coningsby to watch the Lancaster do circuits as part of its testing for public displays. The Lancaster is certainly an impressive plane with its looks and deep slow engine noise.

We then followed the coast through Burnham Market, Wells next the sea, Blakeney and other nice villages, so many people sightseeing. We stopped at Morston Quay, tide was out and there were beached boats everywhere. The tidal distance can be huge because the land is so flat.

We had a few hours of driving today to get to Great Yarmouth, so most of the sightseeing was from the car as we passed through.

Tonight’s B&B guesthouse room is, in reality, just a little different to the photos on the web site. Our room is small, there is a “cupboard” with the shower in it and a tiny room with the toilet, but it all works and wasn’t expensive. We do, however, have a front room that looks over the sea. it is a bright, airy room.
