We headed north from Amsterdam to cross the water on the Houtribdijk. Unfortunately we ended up going where the GPS said there were no roads. We were on a new motorway that the GPS didn’t know about. We turned off at some stage so the GPS could find us, only to find that we were nowhere near where we wanted to be, heading east instead of north. We has planned to go via Edam to Broekerhaven and then cross via the Houtribdijk. Not to be, so we travelled up the eastern side of the Markermeer to Lelystad, crossed to the western side on the Houtribdijk, turned around and crossed back, a distance each way of about 30 kms. Things you do. On the way, we passed a replica of the Batavia ship and stopped to look at the canal/locks/bridge. Huge locks for huge barges.
We then headed along smaller roads to Driebergen for the night. We’re in an unusual place tonight. It seems to be a conference and training centre set in big grounds, with many accommodation blocks. Our room is big and very modern. There is a part dividing wall, that doesn’t reach the ceiling, between the open plan toilet and bath/shower. There are some things that are best kept private. Bed is big and comfortable. Our room is bottom right.
