Looked out the window this morning, to sun, and wondered why there were so many cars in driveways. It’s Saturday and people weren’t at work. It’s easy to lose track of days when travelling. Warm enough to not need a jumper today.
There just happened to be a steam train nearby, the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway that needed our support. Guess who managed to have a footplate ride, for about 15 mins while moving the loco from one wnd of the train to the other. Great! It was a small engine, but very smooth. We could have listened to the steam noises all day. On the site of the main station is the Museum of Scottish Railways, lots of engines, carriages and spare parts.
After spending longer than planned (isn’t it always the case) with train stuff, we went on to a Scottish National Trust property, Alloa Tower. A medieval keep, Mary, Queen of Scots and James VI spent part of their childhoods here.
On then to the Royal Burg of Culross. It’s very pretty 17th century village with narrow roads away from the almost as narrow main road. We did drive around some of the narrow back streets wondering if we would fit and be able to turn the corners. No marks on the car fortunately. Discovered the ruins of a 13th century abbey.
