Had a good night at “The George” with another good breakfast with good coffee.
Went for a wander around the centre of the town & set sail for the Iron Trunk Aqueduct at Cosgrove. More canal stuff. This aqueduct was built more than 200 years ago and crosses the Great Ouse River. Very peaceful location with lots of boats moored. Many look like permanent residents with some narrowboats looking a bit tired as though they are not used. We walked along the towpath for as far as we thought we could justify.
From Cosgrove we drove to Long Crendon, a very picturesque village with a 14th Century courthouse. The National Trust bought this property in 1900 and launched an appeal to raise money to repair the very decayed building. There are some impressive timbers and trusses.
There were some very attractive buildings in the village.
Some of the thatched roofs has thatched animals on them.
By this time, it was just before 4pm and we thought we’d head towards Oxford to find a bed for the night. Well, Oxford is obviously a popular and busy place. We spent about 2 hours before we found a B&B with a vacancy (in Banbury) at what seems like a local reasonable price – 82 GBP, more than we’d thought of spending. We offset this by going to the local Morrisons supermarket and bought bits and pieces and a bottle of wine for about 9 GBP. Dinner finished, wine finished, so back to the blog.
Happy Birthday Cindy!!
You seem to be keeping up with your Blog. We are still doing ours and we have been home for a week and a half. Well done.
