Singapore Monday night & Tuesday

We had a very smooth flight to Singapore with not a lot of cloud. Arrived a little early and sorted out our Stopover package & waited for about 45 mins for the transfer to the hotel. It seems that  “in about 10 mins” is another way of saying sometime in the next hour. It’s difficult to read between the lines when you read onlinP5300507e reviews,so we weren’t sure what to expect of the hotel we booked. No cause for concern, it is fine. Good size room, good aircon, good buffet breakfast and a very good location for MRT stations. After a glass of wine (surprise), we went for a walk to get a Singapore sim card and managed to use up almost all of the $8 straight away on data – still not sure how data turned on on the phone, unless taking the phone out of aeroplane mode turned it on automatically. Still no matter, at least the last bit of credit allowed Whatsapp to keep working. Had a great (and cheap) meal, $7 for more than we needed froma nearby food court. About to try a different one tonight.

Raining quite heavily this morning, so we sat looking out the window of the dining area, having breakfast, taking our time. Good coffee, had 2 mugs each. No rush.

Once we left the hotel, the day became busy. We walked doen a street opposite the hotel because there was an interesting old building at the end.

We then caught the hop on hop off bus to the Singapore flyer, the big wheel. Views were great.

Off then to the nearest MTR to get to the cable car to Sentosa. There are 2 lines and we used both of them. The first was ftook us up Mount Faber, then down again to Sentosa Island and the other was a round trip of about 1.5 km on sentosa Island.

In between we went on the Tiger tower, a 160 metre (I think) column with a revolving passenger cabin (more great views), then Rick went on a fast luge ride.  Back on the cable car, MTR and Ho Ho bus to the hotel. Bit weary. couple of glasses of wine helped. going out soon for a feed.

The view from our hotel windoe on the 15th floor could be worse. Singapore P5300528

Less than a week to go!!

We should probably start thinking about what we need to take with us. We leave on Monday and have a few busy days between now and then. First stop is Singapore for a couple of nights, then on to Heathrow. Both flights over are during the day, arriving in Singapore around 4:30 pm on Monday. The Singapore Stopover package includes a transfer to the hotel – makes it easy. We arrive in London on Wednesday, around 7:00pm. Our French registered, tax free Peugeot 208 should be waiting for us there.

Here are jumbled maps of how we have roughly planned our route. UK, then Netherlands south to France, then back to Paris and Eurostar to London.

Lots of places that we’d like to visit, but we’ll have to miss some.

We have a few highlights: Catching up with Di, Barry and Co in Dover, Canal boat in England, spending time with Joan & John in South West France, a couple of nights in Chamonix France, a couple of nights near the Matterhorn Switzerland, seeing Ursula and Erich near Ulm Germany, almost a week in Pars and 4 nights in London. Along the way there are canal related visits, National Trust properties, beautiful villages, perhaps the odd (although hopefully not too odd) coffee stops and perhaps a local wine or 2.

Stay tuned for the next post from Singapore.
